Yoga Immersion Weekend 2018

Friday, April 27
4:30- 5:30 Vin/Yin  REGISTER 
With Dene Grafton in Jade
Complimentary to Members (Members do not need to register)

Class Description:
This class will be taught with the soft light of candles to help bring your focus inward. Half the class is restorative Yin on the mat with the use of props, where longer holds deepen the stretch to get into connective tissue. The other half is a slow Vinyasa style flow. All-levels welcome.

5:30-8:45 Mala Bead Workshop REGISTER 
With visiting instructor Dr. Karen Pascoe of the Mind, Body, Life Transformation Center in Jade

Class Description:
Join us for a snack in the Yoga Common area from 5:30-5:45. 
Mala is a string of 108 beads that serves as a beautiful, wearable and symbolic reminder of your desired energy or intention. Often used as a tool for meditation, malas hold certain energy linked through a mantra- a statement of intention or affirmation. Each time you pass a bead through your fingers you repeat your mantra. Passing through all 108 beads is a full cycle or meditation. It is believed that 108 channels of energy run to and from the heart, so if you repeat your mantra 108 times your heart will truly and deeply feel the energy.
All of our malas are mindfully and skillfully crafted from natural gemstones that support the energy of the mantra, intention or affirmation. Each participant will create their own unique Mala.

11:00-12:15 Beginner’s Meditation Workshop REGISTER 
With Amy Baker in Jade

Class Description:
Amy will give you simple and effective tools to start a meditation practice. We will explore Loving-Kindness/Metta Mediation, a method for developing compassion for yourself and others and Anapanasati Meditation, a technique that simply focuses on the breath.

1:00-2:00 Essential Yoga REGISTER
With Mary France in Jade

Class Description:
Essential Yoga will teach you how to enhance your yoga practice with the support of pure and potent essential oils. Through a blend of Hatha and Yin Yoga we will explore different ways to use oils as a means to take your yoga practice to the next level! Expect a steady and relaxing yoga practice infused with essential oils that are intentionally selected. This workshop will teach you what essential oils are, where they come from and ways to begin incorporating them into your practice. You will have the opportunity to create your own personal mini-kit of oils so that you may continue to explore the benefits on your body, mind and spirit. 

2:15-3:15 Advanced Alignment REGISTER
With Drew Overholser in Jade

Class Description:
Attend this session to learn fundamental alignment and core engagement principles to keep your body safe while doing intermediate to advanced poses. Some experience with yoga required, but you don’t have to be an expert to benefit from this session.

3:30-4:30 Yoga for Stress Relief and Anxiety REGISTER
With Kristin Doherty in Jade

Class Description:
Participants in this workshop will learn how to regulate the nervous system out of a fight or flight response using mudras, mantras, meditation, breath and body awareness techniques. These tried and true strategies help calm the physiological response to stress and quiet the mind.

4:45-6:00 Buti Yoga Party REGISTER
With Aston Arthur in Jade

Class Description:
Join Buti Yoga instructor and founder of Ashton August for a special 75-minute Buti Yoga class. Buti Yoga is a powerful blend of tribal dance, yoga, and plyometrics. The word "Buti" is a Marathi Indian term for “the cure to something hidden beneath the surface.” The Buti yoga practice focuses on removing blockages in the first and second chakras to activate the innate qualities of sexuality, power, confidence, and cleansing.  Learn valuable techniques for abdominal engagement and mind/body connection, and have fun learning a few basic tribal dance moves before putting it all together in a Buti Yoga flow!

11:30-12:30 Restorative Yoga REGISTER

Class Description:
Restorative or Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues of the body that are not normally exercised in the more active types of yoga. It is the perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular styles of yoga.  Dene will leave you feeling relaxed and energized. Suitable for all levels.

12:45-2:00 Flight School REGISTER
With Channing Grivas in Jade

Class Description:                                                                                                                                                The inverted postures of yoga are some of the most beneficial yet intimidating of the asanas. You will be introduced to and practice postures such as headstand, forearm stand, handstand and more. You will be guided through alignment, technique, proper modifications and feel how to develop the power in your core strength. Learn to use the wall as a way to continue practicing inversions beyond this class. Let go of the fear, we are here to support.  No inversion experience is necessary… this is where you come to learn. 

2:15-3:30 Introduction to Chair Yoga REGISTER
With Marda Zechiel in Studio 2

Class Description:
Not everyone can get up and down off the floor easily making traditional yoga classes difficult. With the help of a chair anyone can practice yoga with the same benefits of increased circulation, balance, flexibility, mobility and strength. Chair Yoga is recommended for those with arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer recovery, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, post-op rehabilitation and others with limited mobility. Also a great way to reduce pain and fatigue at the office.  
3:30-4:00 Snacks and drinks in Yoga common area

4:00-5:00 Candlelight Vinyasa REGISTER
With Marda Zechiel in Jade
Complimentary to Members   (Members do not need to register)

Class Description:
Breath connected movement in a slow-paced candle lit Vinyasa class. Suitable for all levels.

6:00-7:30 VOLO Restore REGISTER
With Carol Webber at Pura Vida (maximum of 10 participants)
If more members want to participate we will add another session.  

Class Description:
Volo Restore is an approach where the silk hammock hangs very low to the ground and full restoration of the body and mind is achieved. This deeply therapeutic practice may focus on target areas, subtle to deep releases, and increase mobility in a safe and non-intimidating way. An exceptional transition to physical activity after an injury or surgery. Athletes will benefit by using this as a post activity renewal for their bodies and mental release for their minds. Volo Restore is for everybody and every body!
